Doubled Capacity Without Increasing Headcount:
The platform allows the existing team to manage double the well count by providing a unified view that surfaces problems automatically and notifies the right people.
Lack of visibility into property leases for oil wells was costing an oil and gas company precious time, resources, and revenue. Foxtrot delivered an application in two months that doubled oil well capacity through unprecedented visibility into lease management.
Lease management for non-operator oil and gas companies can be difficult: horizontal oil wells can stretch 10 miles across multiple properties, requiring mineral rights leases for each section. When oil production stops, leases expire in 30 to 90 days. Without timely operator data, leases can expire before a company realizes the wells on these properties have stopped producing. For this small oil and gas company, the process was often reactive. Expired leases were discovered after the fact, and the company was losing revenue on two fronts: wells that had stopped producing were flagged late, and lease re-negotiations were forced on properties the company no longer had leverage on.
Foxtrot deployed a specialized team that combined deep oil and gas domain knowledge with Palantir Foundry expertise. In two months, the team built a front-end interface that identifies at-risk properties and protects oil well lease interests. Analysts can filter across different object types (lease criteria, well production, and contracts) or receive automated "alerts" for lease tracts needing review, allowing users to investigate and action leases before they expire.
Additionally, leveraging sector-specific knowledge, Foxtrot identified impossible well configurations and contradictory dates in the source data, helping the client correct errors in their internal system. Foxtrot also empowered the client’s internal team: by the final week of the engagement, client data analysts were using Foundry’s Workshop interface to build their own filtered views and dashboards independently.
The platform allows the existing team to manage double the well count by providing a unified view that surfaces problems automatically and notifies the right people.
The company now identifies at-risk leases before expiration. The tool provides total visibility into problems while there is still time to act, protecting the company’s mineral rights and assets.
Beyond the primary use case, the project exposed critical gaps in the client’s internal system. Regardless of how they expand their Foundry application, these fixes will continue to support high-fidelity planning.
By deploying engineers who understood the platform’s nuances, Foxtrot moved the client from a stagnant data foundation to a live, front-end application in just 60 days.
